If there were a god, there wouldn’t be poor in the world. They’re the ones who truly beg, pray, and cry out to their god. However, they remain poor. The rich, on the other hand, Christian or not, rarely pray. Why would they? They need little. They only pray in times of emotional need.

Aye. The existence of such immense suffering suggests that there is no God, or that God exists but is indifferent to human misery. I don’t understand why people struggle with the theodicy issue when it has a simple answer.
An indifferent god is no different – from a human viewpoint – than no god. Either way, there is effectively no god that matters to us. Odds are, there’s no god at all.
I saw someone post recently “POOR = People Overlooking Opportunities Repeatedly” I wanted to vomit. Yes, it came from a God fearing conservative.

The answer to that is “brainwashing.” When you’re brainwashed, you see everything the way the powers that be want you to see it. You’re own instincts, logic are completely shut down. Sad, eh?

Yeap, indifferent same as non-existent. And if he/she is indifferent, why would he/she want acknowledgement, anyway?

Good point, that’s what the rich say of the poor: it is all their fault. They’re not trying at all. They’re losers. It’s partially true. But how can they think higher thoughts and be entrepreneurial, if all they see in front of them is closed doors?
The worst part of that mindset is that Christians who are doing well think that they are because they’re good, that god blesses them because they’re doing all the right things. The flip side of that is that poor folks aren’t pleasing god. The good, all Christian cope out: it is your own fault, not god’s.

This is so true. I cannot count the number or times I have heard someone say, “Well have you confessed ‘ALL’ your sins? There may be hidden sin.” I actually had someone say this about my husband and I after we had just lost our 5 day old baby(many years ago). I was floored to say the least. My response was “Well it must be pretty hidden, because I can’t find it!” This was followed up a few weeks later with “What are you going to do with all the baby clothes and stuff because I know people in the church who could use them.” Amazing, yes? I actually am constantly amazed…”Give more, pray more, be more committed to the church.” There were times that I thought “If I get any more committed, I’d be in an asylum.” It is this type of mindset that caused me to rethink most of what I’ve been believing. It is quite a journey and I am just at the beginning. Just beginning to unravel the rope around my brain that was squeezing out any rational or questioning thought. One that made me feel hopeless, useless, stupid. It’s getting a bit clearer in there now.
